NIW Researcher FAQ
How many publications are required for NIW?
USCIS does not impose a fixed publication requirement. The evidence must establish EB2 eligibility and all NIW requirements.
Are citations required?
No fixed citation threshold exists. Citation evidence may be useful but is not mandatory in every research based NIW case.
Can a graduate student qualify for NIW?
Potentially, if the applicant independently establishes underlying EB2 eligibility and the NIW requirements. Career stage alone does not determine the outcome.
Does my employer have to sponsor the NIW?
No. A qualifying applicant may self petition for a National Interest Waiver.
